Mini DV Conversion

You may need to convert Mini DV cassette recordings to a format more compatible with a certain kind of player, like a DVD player, or multimedia on your PC. Sometimes, the tape may get scratched due to constant use and replay. Converting it to other formats makes replaying it easy and harmless. Conversion is either through software like DVD Santa, or through use of hardware like DVD recorders. A third method of conversion is through manual digitization.

Software like DVD Santa is convenient to use if you need to convert Mini DV tapes to DVD format, since it does not need extensive computer knowledge. For converting Mini DV tapes to a multimedia format, in case you need to run them on your PC, a software like Firestreamer DV is available online for a nominal charge. The conversion can also be done the other way round, that is, from PC to a Mini DV cassette.

The second method of conversion is through devices such as DVD recorders. The signal from the tape is converted to a digital signal and stored in the DVD. This is an inexpensive method, though it has its disadvantages. It leaves no room for editing the pictures or sound, and the resulting DVD may skip or be jerky because of compatibility issues.

The third kind of Mini DV conversion method is manual, and it is a good option if you are looking for a professional recording quality for occasions like weddings, baby showers, or graduation ceremonies. Also, some kinds of conversion, for example, digital 8 to Mini DV format, are difficult for a non expert and call for special skills. Many professional services are offered for such conversions on various websites. This kind of service is even auctioned on EBay. Some websites offer discounts on more than one DVD copy. This kind of conversion leaves room for careful editing, and any flaw in the recording can be edited or snipped off.

With so many options for those who need to convert the format of their Mini DV recording, there is no reason why they should not be used, especially if you want to preserve the special memories of a wedding or your graduation day.

Mini DV provides detailed information about mini DVs, mini DV camcorders, mini DV conversion and more. Mini DV is affiliated with DVD R Duplication.

The Race For High Definition

When it comes to providing quality, High Definition programming, there is quite a bit of fierce competition between the various cable and satellite television providers. Some providers may offer a great deal of sports HD programming, for example, but lack quality HD movie choices. Other providers may have the opposite problem. Truly, since the advent of High Definition technology, there has been a race between cable and satellite providers to see who can offer the most HD programming at the best possible price.

Unfortunately for cable subscribers, there can be a great disparity between one cable company and the next. Because of the fact that most people can't choose between different cable companies, you may find that your neighbor has access to more High Definition programming than you have. Or, it might be that your brother who lives across town has access to all sorts of HD movies, so you try to travel there to see those movies in High Definition, while you may have more access to HD sports channels, and he has to come to your house to see those. This is, obviously, an arrangement that is less than ideal.

There are options, however, for those consumers whose cable companies are limited as to their High Definition choices. Satellite providers tend to have a broader selection of HD packages than cable companies. Of the satellite providers, DirecTV has the largest offering of HD programming, offering more HD programming than either cable or its biggest satellite competitor, Dish Network. Both DirecTV and Dish Network have added to their HD channel lineup, but it looks as though DirecTV still has more HD programming than its competition. Dish Network in attempts to keep up and camouflage its smaller lineup has been focusing more on its special offers of HD hardware.

In addition to the number of channels available in the race for High Definition, the competitors have also competed for the best pricing options. This competition has been very good for the consumer, in that just about any HD package you buy from a cable company, DirecTV, or Dish Network will be comparably priced. This leaves you to decide based on how many channels you get for your money, as well as whether or not your favorite movies or sports programming are available on a particular provider's High Definition channel selection. Looking toward the future, DIRECTV had its next HD satellite delivered in January (2008) which will expand its network of high definition channels up to 150 and local options by 1,500. Cable providers and the Dish network have a long year ahead of them in the HD department.

What is High Definition Television?

When does a television become HD? 'When it's ready and enabled to display high definition signals' would be the obvious answer, but this is somewhat non-descript and electronically it goes a lot deeper than that.

A television screen or projector lens that is HD enabled has a higher resolution than that of a standard TV. This means that the lines which go across the screen are able to be closer together whilst still projecting the image. Because they are closer together, the pixels between them are smaller and there is space for a lot more detail in the image. The reason that most HD television sets are Plasma or LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) is that they can display the greater amount of information sent to the screen with their lines which are closer together.

Regular television screens have a maximum resolution of 480p (NTSC), or 576 (PAL), which means any HDTV is around double the quality of a standard one. There is also ten times the amount of pixels displayed on an HD screen than a standard screen at any time; thus greatly improving the quality of the picture.

The label 'HD ready' that you see on televisions and projectors means that the screen has a resolution of 1080p, 1080i or 720p and comes with an HDMI or DVI cable. The other two products that are needed to make HD work on your TV are up to you to find and these are an HD set top box and an HD service such as Virgin Media or Sky HD. If you're missing one or more of these components then your HDTV set won't work and the image will appear exactly the same as it would on a standard television.

If you're left wondering what the p's and i's stand for then the explanation is quite simple. P stands for 'progressive' and I stands for 'interlaced'. With a progressive scan mode each line is enabled vertically one after the other, whereas interlaced scans the data onto the screen firstly with all the odd lines and secondly with all the even ones. The differences between the two are that the progressive mode is better suited to movement and interlaced mode delivers the data to the screen very quickly.

To summarise, an HDTV is one which delivers a higher density of pixels to your screen and therefore a better quality picture as you watch. There is a lot more room for intricate detail which results in real life images having more natural lighting, smoother movement and a greater sense of depth. Watching your favourite programmes on an HDTV is, on the whole, a much more realistic feast for the eyes.

The Secret of How to Get Free Electricity at Home

The key to getting free electricity is using wind and solar power. That's what those energy companies do to provide you with electricity. Basically, they are using windmills and solar systems to make that power, then they are selling it to you. When you know how it works, you start to realize that you are getting ripped off, because you can do absolutely the same thing at home without any cost. So let's find out how.

First of all, just to give you a brief idea about what we are going to do, let me start with basics. There are two ways to produce electricity at home. The first method is by using the power of wind, and the second technique is by using Sun's energy - solar power. Both are great, and you should definitely take advantage of each. However, before you can start enjoying free power, there is some work to do.

Let's take the example of wind power. What you need to do here is make your own windmill. Sometimes people also call these machines as wind turbines. They are made to convert the wind into electricity, which can be used at home. These are actually quite easy to build, and if you have the right instructions, then pretty much anyone can do it. In regards of costs, the total price will be around $200 dollars. That's not really much, considering that it's only one-time investment, which will help you to save thousands of dollars in the future.

Solar panels, which are required to convert solar power into electricity are quite cheap and easy to build as well. So if you want that you are ready to make your own windmill and solar system, then I would recommend you to start with Earth4Energy guide, which has everything you need to begin and successfully finish your project. Design Your Room For Home Theater

One gets the home theater to bring in the theater effect at home with no crowd. It gives the most pompous video effect for cinema at home with excellent quality. Setting up a home theater is not only about just getting a product and installing them at home. It requires a lot of analysis on the set up of the room too. Acoustics are an important branch to be considered when a video or an audio is to be applied on a larger space or in larger volume. Hence, a room must be designed well in accordance to the purpose of the home theater. Echoing, video disruption, interference with environment noise, clarity all should be tested before installing the home theater in the room.

Designing the room well to accommodate home theater's features would provide us with the ultimate outcome of the product. Designing a room involves furniture or seating arrangements, display and speaker placement in orientation to the room.

Selection of room:

Make sure to select the best room to fit in your home theater. This would involve considerations like the electricity supply, the space available, the windows and doors, the lighting capability, acoustic set up of the room and many more. Usually a sales person or a representative would be there to hook up your home theater for you. Get technical advice from the person to decide the room you want the theater in.

Display Positioning:

One has to derive out a logical relationship to the video display speaker and the seating arrangements. View of the viewers must be directly focused on the visual display without any strain to turn their neck. Moreover, sound must be directed right to their ears without any interference to outside noise. Therefore, it would be good to have the speakers on either side of the seating arrangement.

Lighting Set-up:

Lighting set up plays a major role in designing a home theater room. Based on the lighting of the room, one can get the real impact or effect of the display device. Lighting must not be too jazzy to degrade the quality of the visual display. It would be always better to have an ambience lighting that suits well to the atmosphere. One could have matching lights elative to that of the paint on the walls. Paints do show variations on the light reflection. Be sure that the lighting do not end up with their reflection on the display giving a glare effect.

Seating Arrangements:

Seating arrangement would be the most difficult task in designing the room for home theater, because arranging the seats would spoil all the above set-up made for the room. It is always difficult to satisfy a human mind. One must make sure that all the viewers are comfortable with the view they obtain from the seat. Make sure the seating arrangements never cause neck and back pains. Always get comfortable furniture that would keep you for long time without any strain. Make sure that you get an adjusting handle to raise or lower the seat position this would add additional comfort for people of old age. Check in to get the most suitable furniture that suits people of any age range.

To get the full product benefit of a home theater, one has to make sure that they make proper arrangements of all the above said details. Acoustic planning and room design is very important when considering setting up the home theater. One has to consider all the issues right from positioning to seating arrangement to give the entire family a pleasant experience of getting into home theater.

Build a Dream Home Theater and Never Visit a Movie Theater Again - I'm Not

Even with the cost of theater tickets going up and a large popcorn costing as much as lunch at a decent restaurant, I would still, fork over my hard earned money. Why? Because some movies I just wanted to experience in a movie house. I could not imagine the latest superhero action blockbuster on my meager home screen. I wanted the big screen experience.

A few months ago, I decided to realize a dream and build a home theater. I had been planning this for years, and quietly stashing away money while continuing to improve my home theater plans. Finally the day had come, and now you will never see me in a theater again. A movie house cannot compare to a good home theater system; from personal experience - here's why;

1. Picture Quality - Sure some theaters have begun to upgrade to digital, but they still cannot keep up with the advances in the home consumer market. As of this writing the typical resolution of a high definition television is 1080 pixels using a progressive scan. Newer sets use 120hz and 24fps creating and even smoother, crisp picture during fast pans and fast action scenes. Using a top quality plasma television of 1080p projector, your home theater will beat a movie house picture hands down.

2. Customization - Movie theater normally adhere to industry standards in setting contrast, brightness, color balance, sharpness, etc. This standard set to what accurately represent to a wide audience what the filmmaker had envisioned. This may or may not be your taste. If not, it's your home theater, you are free to adjust the picture to what is perfect for you.

3. Environment control - Too cold? turn the thermostat up, or get a blanket. Never again miss a critical part of the movie because you had to use the bathroom or refill you popcorn. You have a lovely little pause button. You control the volume, when the movie starts, you can even go back if you missed some important dialogue.

4. A good sound system, such as the one I purchased is in an entirely other league than a movie house. The surround effects are amazing, and the clarity of shattering glass will make you flinch. Car crashes and explosions will shake your seat and literally pound your chest. You don't just hear the movie you feel it. If a crystal clear display allows you to feel like you are looking through a window into the film makers creation, a good sound system will make you feel like you are actually in the movie.

5. Comfort - I have seven leather recliners with built-in cup holders. Try finding that in a theater. The carpet is free of sticky soda residue and candy.

6. Sharing - It's great to share this experience with friends and to enjoy a good movie with close friends.

7. Sports - You can also enjoy all the above while watching the NBA playoffs and or watching the Superbowl.

For my home theater I opted for a 1080p projector with a 110" screen (that's 9.2 feet) and a 7.1 speaker system with two 10" 300 watt subwoofers. A 7.1 system means I have a center speaker for dialogue, two front speakers, two surround speakers and two rear speakers. Since I have two subwoofers I guess you could call it a 7.2 system.

While spending years planning out my system and countless hours testing out components and displays I have amassed a good deal of expertise in home theaters.

I am happy to share this with anyone at my blog Dream Home Theater I also provide visitors with the best prices I have found. So if you would like a dream home theater, check it out.

What Features Come On The Best Compact Digital Cameras?

Compact digital cameras are improving all the time, making snapshots and photos easier and better all the time. And certainly the march toward digital cameras and away from film cameras is in full swing. So what features can be expected to be found on the best compact digital cameras that most people like to use?

* The megapixel rating is important to understand because it determines how much information is stored about every photo taken. In essence, it has to do with the resolution of the photo, and so higher megapixel cameras can store more information and produce larger high quality enlargements. However, most people don't use their camera for anything more than 4x6 photos, and if that is the case a 3 megapixel camera will often work just fine, and a 4-6 megapixel camera will be good for just about anything you will usually need.

* Battery usage varies considerably between compact digital camera models, with some sipping power consumption and others being relative power hogs. Even the worst cameras will provide about 50 shots from a set of batteries, but when you consider that the best cameras will take between 400-500 shots per battery set, it's a huge difference. And it's also a good idea to get a camera that uses AA batteries to save money on power in the long run as you can then use rechargeable batteries instead of throwaways each time.

* The best compact digital cameras also are fast. Each digital camera has to take some time to process an image when the shutter is pressed. Some do this very quickly, others don't. In fact, some can take up to 4-5 seconds to process a shot, during which time you have to just wait until it's done to be able to take the next shot. This can be very frustrating in rapid action sequences. Another problem with speed can be what is called the shutter lag, or time it takes for the autofocus mechanism to finish and then trip the shutter to begin with. Some do this in under a half second, others take a full second or more. When you add up the extra time taken for the shutter lag and processing the digital image afterward, you can see why getting the fastest camera you can is an important feature of the best compact digital cameras.

* The best cameras also have a flexible optical zoom rate of 5X - 10X or more which allows you more ability to zoom in and get great close-up shots when needed.

Of course, all of these top quality features do come at a cost, so you can expect to pay more for some of them as opposed to just the standard camera. But if price is not as much of a consideration in the search, and you want to find the best compact digital cameras for sale, look for the kind of features mentioned above when you shop.

Web Page Optimization - 5 Tips For Your Title Tags

It used to be that one of the top reasons web pages were ranked highly was due to their excessive use of stuffing keywords into their meta keywords tag or filling up their web page with the same word or phrase over and over; also referred to as "keyword density".

As times have changed and as they continue to change there is still one critical element to effective SEO that has remained consistent throughout all search engine time and that is your title tag.

The title tag on your page holds a great amount of weight in the search engines; however, many websites still use their title tag the wrong way. What follows are the top 5 tips for effective title tag design that you can begin using right away for your on-page SEO strategy.

And just for the record, when we refer to the title tag, we're referring to the code on your web pages that looks like this:

< title>The Important Page Title Keywords< /title>.

Tip #1: Keep your title tag under 64 characters. While each of the largest search engines; Google, Yahoo! and MSN each have their own rules when it comes to how many characters they display on their search results page, Google has the most restrictive rule of 64 characters. Anything longer than this, you run the risk of very important keywords or phrases not showing up in the search engine results page. This is important because your title tag is the hyperlink that a search visitor would click on to get to your page and if you had included some very important keywords in a text string longer than 64 characters, that title tag would get cut off in Google.

Tip #2: Keep the most important keyword for the web page front and center. What this means is that whatever main keyword or phrase you're optimizing for on your web page, make it the very first word within your title tag. For example, if you were optimizing a page for "gourmet coffee" then you'd place that word at the beginning of your title tag. < title>Gourmet Coffee Tastes Great< /title>

Tip #3: This goes without saying but always, always use a title tag for each and every one of your web pages. You'd be surprised how many people overlook this simple little thing on their web pages but just to give you an example, visit Google and type in allintitle:"Untitled Document". This will return all of those web pages that currently don't have a title which means that they're missing out on all of the potential search engine rankings they could be getting.

Tip #4: Remember that you write for a web searcher not a search engine. What this tip means is that even though you may be following the rule above by placing your main keyword at the beginning of your title tag, it must still read well for a typical web searcher. This is important because when your site does come up in the search engines results pages, the title tag for your web page is what becomes the clickable link that will take a web searcher to your web site. Additionally, the keywords that the person searched on are bolded if they're contained within your title tag; and if you've done your job correctly, they will show up bolded within that link. If you simply can't make the title to your page sound like a normal person would talk, then simply just use your keywords.

Here's an example using our "gourmet coffee" keyword. You know by now that the phrase "gourmet coffee" should show up within your title tag since that's the word you're optimizing for. However, you might mention some gourmet coffee brands on this same web page and be tempted to use them in your title tag like so:

< title>Gourmet Coffee Peets Starbucks Boca Java< /title>

This doesn't necessarily read well to the end user (the web searcher) so if you can't make it sound like a real person would speak, don't toss keywords in there just for the sake of using them. Stick to the simple keyword phrase of "gourmet coffee" like so:

< title>Gourmet Coffee< /title>

Tip #5: Keep your company name out! A very large mistake that many companies make is by placing their company name at the beginning of the title tag like so:

< title>The Coffee Company - Gourmet Coffee< /title>

First off, the main keyword phrase isn't listed near the front of the title tag which is mistake #1 and mistake #2 is that the search engines will believe that the web page they're indexing is about "The Coffee Company" first and "gourmet coffee" secondarily.

If you're looking to rank your site for your company name, this is all well and good (although not recommended). You're attempting to rank for "gourmet coffee" but instead are giving a higher importance to your company name.

If you absolutely must use your company name in your title tag, then place it at the end - like so:

< title>Gourmet Coffee - The Coffee Company< /title>

Whenever possible, keep your title tag simple and to the point. There's no need to place an excessive amount of information within the title tag. Stick to the keywords that you've chosen for that page, keep your company name out of it if your boss will let you, and you'll be thanked by the search engines by being so well-informed.

Wii Weight Loss - The New Incredible Way Of Loosing Weight With The Wii Nintendo Gaming Console

Is Wii Weight Loss possible? You can bet! With the new Nintendo console, the extended body involvement due to the new Wii device is opening new frontiers in having fun while trying to achieve your weight loss goals.

How Wii weight loss started

As many things in our life, all started with an apparent problem: a few people were complaining hurting muscles after having played sport games on Wii. While Nintendo initially avoided any responsibilities claiming that Wii was not mean to be an exercise tool, some smart guys had a different approach: they exploited the increased body activity induced by the Wii device to come back in shape while playing games and having fun. A few reported losing 10 pounds in less than two months.

Four steps to exercise with Wii for weight loss

First, you have to choose appropriate games. The most games effective will keep you moving and involved for most of the time, instead of asking your body just a few bursts of activity here and there. This is why tennis and boxing from Wii Sports are the hot picks. More and more Wii fitness packages are reaching the market (Wii Fit will offer you more than 40 fitness activities to choose from) but you can go for the easy path and stick with Wii Sports as well.

Second, set an exercise plan. This means deciding how much time you will exercise each day with Wii Sports. Your target is to play for 30 minutes each day. If you are not accustomed to exercising, plan your first two weeks to gradually increase your daily playing time from 5 minutes to 30.

Third, wear something comfortable. As you are not going to be just in your chair, this is quite important. You are going to appreciate that after your 30 minutes of activity.

Fourth, you have just to play! Just a recommendation: play like you were there. Or there is no point with all this stuff.

Wii weight loss: its not enough

So the new Wii is prospecting a new way to loose weight in your house while having fun. But if you are serious with that, just playing tennis or boxing with your gaming console wont be enough: you have to integrate it with proper diet, more exercise and, most important, set time for it.

If you are just looking for a better shape (loosing those 10 pounds; remember that any major weight disease can only be treated by professionals) and you are serious about integrating the necessary appropriate habits in your life, a weight loss approach based on the Nintendo console could be the nice and funny help you were looking for.

Extremely Large and Extremely Small Televisions

For the last 5 or 6 years the media (and therefore also the public) has focused either the huge television sets or the extremely small televisions that can be carried around in your pocket. On the tiny end of the scale you have the portable players with 2-4 inch screens that can pack enormous amounts of video into a piece of hardware the size of a wallet or even a credit card.

On the other end of the spectrum there are the large HDTVs where anything smaller than 42 inches isn't even worth talking or writing about if you ask much of the popular media. You are sometimes left wondering if there's still anything in between these two extremes - while both of these types of technology are impressive nonetheless.

Finding a normal television with a 4:3 aspect ratio in a similar size between twenty to thirty inches is actually becoming more and more difficult. That is unless you are then compensation by going for digital televisions like LCD screens or plasma screens. The most significant difference between the TV's that are available today and those that were available ten years ago is the fact that modern standard definition television sets typically have digital tuners built in. The TV manufacturers are preparing for the change to digital television (planned for 2009) even though it's unclear whether or not it will actually happen on schedule.

There is a bigger question than whether or not standard TV sets are still available. There are many arguments against investing in a standard definition television right now and the most obvious argument against getting one is the fact that more and more TV shows are being produced in the HDTV format. Secondly many TV distributors are preparing to offer more HDTV channels over the next couple of years.

As the popularity and availability of HDTV programming increases, we are likely to see a great (and expanding) effect in the number of TV channels and TV shows that will change to High Definition Television. The more channels and programs that make the switch, the more people will watch the programs on these channels and the public will begin to ask questions why the rest of the channels haven't also made the switch to HDTV and will put pressure on them to do so.

This is not to say that standard definition TV will be nonexistent in the future. But it is more likely that the TV programs and shows that are produced in the High Def format will be "down converted" to standard definition format and be shown on standard definition television channels, at least for some years to come.

This is actually already happening to some extent as it was seen in the most recent Star Trek series which was shot in high definition. Because this was still a very popular show for people to watch on normal standard definition channels and while it originally aired in standard definition a lot of its fans probably didn't even realize that it had actually been shot in HD. This brings us to another of the many advantages of HDTV sets - Even if you are not watching HDTV on it, there's an increasing trend to broadcast normal television shows in the wide screen format that looks good on HDTV screens.

What Are the Different Kinds of LCD TV?

LCD stands for many different things depending on what field it is being used. In mathematics LCD is defined as least common denominator while in Atkins, it is low carbohydrate diet. But we will be talking about liquid crystal display or the LCD acronym used in the world or television or home entertainment. Sometimes LCD is being defined as liquid crystal diode. Sometimes, it is being confused as LED or light emitting diode. The LED is best known as the red light on clock radios. A diode has nothing to do with the light projection in televisions.

The term liquid and crystal in the LCD pertain to the medium that the electricity is applied. The crystals twist and bend in certain degrees and the change in shape allows up to 1024 shades of one color in your TV.

What makes the LCD TV confusing is that it has three types.

1. Flat panel LCD - they compete with the plasma TVs. The lightest and thinnest among them all.

2. Rear projection LCD - the rival of digital light projection or DLP televisions. Thickness is between 15 - 19 inches and weighs around 100 pounds. They are slowly replacing the CRT models. They may be bulkier but they offer a superb picture quality and large screen size.

3. Front projection LCD - can project an image into a screen as big as 200 inches in your home theater system and even bigger if you have a larger room! They are small, lightweight, and very easy to carry around. You will need an area where you can project the image.

3. A digital camera will let you modify images before you print them, so the end result is better.

4. You don't have to buy film, and you're always prepared to take photos when the occasion appears. Think how annoying it is to try taking a photo and missing film in the camera.

5. You can see the end result right after you take the photo. Seeing the photo insures that you will always save the good ones, and repeat the photos when they turn bad.

6. Each model of camera will come with its own pixel count. The bigger this number, the better the resolution and the quality of the photos you take.

7. The LCD screen of the digital camera lets you preview the photo properly, instead of looking for a small viewfinder.

8. You can connect your digital camera to the computer, copy the photos, save them or modify them with Photoshop.

9. You're no longer limited to just a few dozen photos, until your run out of film. A digital camera can store hundreds if not thousands of photos.

10. Right after you take the photos, you can copy them to the PC, upload them to an online service, like Flickr or to a site that lets you modify them. Or, you can send them to a shop that develops photos and pick them up a bit later.

The reasons you read above are all good parts of the digital camera when you compare it with a normal one.

When you're looking to buy a digital camera, you can choose between a lot of models, with many different options. You can visit a store to check what models they have for sale and what each can do. Price shouldn't be the only reason why you choose a camera. When you take into consideration all the great photos you'll be taking, a digital camera is well worth the investment. You should also look for cameras that support rechargeable batteries, since it will save you a bit of money in the long term.

The Best and Easiest Way to Fix a Blown Out Speaker

Stereo speakers are built to last. Every time you turn them on they are submitted to abuse and punishment, even more so depending on the type of music you listen to. For example, music with heavy bass shakes everything in your home. Imagine what is going on in the speaker cone.

Even the best, quality stereo speakers are bound to crackle from all of this abuse over time. When that happens, you may have the chance to save yourself some money by repairing those broken speakers instead of buying new ones.

It all starts with finding the problem causing the sound problems. It can be an enclosure damaged or maybe it blew out from an electrical or thermal fuse. Problems with the voice coil are a common problem, sometimes the crossover network is faulty and even problems as easy as a solder connection can be the cause of your problems. Whatever your speaker issue maybe, it can be fixed. Here is a breakdown of how you can repair a speaker that is blown out.

  • The first thing you need to do is figure out which speaker is giving you problems. You can easily do this by playing around with the stereos equalizer. Alter the balance and the fader to isolate the speaker causing the distortion in sound or if there is no sound at all. Be sure not to have the volume blasting or you run the risk of blowing out a good speaker.
  • Once youve figured out which speaker is the bad one, you now need to take it apart. Try to do this step carefully because you dont want to cause further damage to a part which is working fine. Remove the faceplate of the speaker and then gently loosen the seams of the speakers fabric without tearing it.
  • Now that the speaker cone is visible, you can begin repairing it. Have some tape or glue handy since this is what you will primarily be using if the cone of the speaker is punctured or torn. Youll want to make sure the hole or tear is completely covered before moving on to the next step.
  • Test the voice coil to see if it is damaged in any way such as if it melted at some point for example. If there is even the tiniest of gaps in the coil, no sound will flow from the speaker or it will sound extremely distorted, depending on the size. If you see that the voice coil is indeed melted, then just replace the speaker entirely.
  • If youre going to need any replacement parts, now is the time to order them. They can either be found directly from the manufacturer but they can be expensive or from stereo specialties shops. An often overlooked fact is to know the part number or numbers of the pieces you are looking for. They are normally located on the inside of the speaker or backside of the cone. Doing so will make your life an awful lot easier.
  • Now that you have all parts you need to properly fix the speaker, take a look at how the damaged part is attached to the speaker. Once you remove the broken piece, you are going to need to install the new one the same way.
  • Now that you are all completed putting the speaker back to together, the only thing left to do is test to see if all your hard work paid off. Hook it back up to the stereo and test it at a low volume slowly turning the volume up to see if it can handle. If the speaker is still not working and you feel like did everything correctly, take it to a professional and let them fix it from there.

Used Coffee Grounds - Good For Your Plants

As you prepare the next pot of morning brew, lifting the lid and removing the used coffee grounds, the first place most people head for is the garbage. I have heard for years that alot of people use coffee grinds as an additive to their gardens. Recently I have seen this in action, saving my coffee grinds in a separate section of my compost and sprinkling them around my tomato plants, working them into the soil around the base of the plant, the results were amazing ,my tomato plants flourished producing larger than average fruit.

Because of their high nitrogen content used coffee grinds are a great fertilizer for gardens nitrogen is generally difficult for plants to acquire out of all the mineral nutrients in the soil, Most plants have difficulty gathering nitrogen because of how they do it, primarily thru their roots, which are buried in the soil.

Most all plants depend on mineral forms of nitrogen contained in the soil, and this is where your coffee grounds come into play.Used grounds can give your soil the added nitrogen that they need if your soil is lacking it. Coffee grinds also contain potassium, phosphorus, and some other elements that aid the growth of plants. Many rose gardeners have stated (my grandmother included) swear that the addition of coffee grounds have made their roses more colorful and larger than normal.

The coffee grinds when added to your compost break-down very quickly and can be used in a short period of time to help develop your plants. The other thing you can do is simply sprinkle the grounds around the base of your plants as I usually do and blend into the soil. Having said this at the rate I go through coffee I have resorted to dumping the coffee grinds into my compost along with my lawn clippings.

Other reports are claiming that grounds are a natural insect repellent. And can be effective on reducing the amount of ants in a location, simply sprinkling coffee grounds on the anthill or where they are traveling will deter them from that area.

In any case using coffee grounds to benefit plant growth seems to be an excellent alternative to discarding them in my garbage, it's a little extra work but it is free so I will continue to do so !

What About Nintendo Wii??

Nintendo Wii Active Gaming The Nintendo Wii is a revolutionary gaming system that allows you to really feel like you are doing the games you are playing. Right out of the box it is ready for you to enjoy.

With Wii Sports you can play five sports right in your home and feel almost like you are playing for real. You can take the court with tennis, hit the lanes in bowling, take the field in baseball, visit the green in golf, and step into the ring in boxing. Besides Wii Sports there several other sports games have been released for the Nintendo Wii that use the revolutionary capabilities of the Wii to create an active video game experience. Just a two examples are Showtime Championship Boxing and Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games. Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games is among the more interesting somewhat active games considering it has several different games to play and can be fun as a multiplayer game. The games are not always very active, but it does have some good active games including rowing and the swimming events.

There are also several other Nintendo Wii games out there that are active, although, you have to be selective as some are just regular video games that do not use the active capabilities of the Wii. One of the best active games that has been released is Wii Fit. This game is an interactive exercise video game. The closest thing it can be compared to is an exercise video, but it is much more than just that. It further makes the Nintendo Wii revolutionary through the addition of the Wii balance board, which gives the added functionality that allows you to do the included exercises and activities as an interactive video gaming experience with the Nintendo Wii.

To some of the more hardcore gamers the Wii Fit may seem too explicitly like exercising to be enjoyable as a video game. There are still other fun active gaming options, such as the snow skiing game called We Ski, which uses the balance board as skis and the Wii remote and nunchuck as ski poles.

Another good active game for the Nintendo Wii is Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party. This game is available for several gaming systems, but the Wii version makes the game more active than the others. Beyond giving your legs a workout with the dance pad the Wii version adds hand gestures by using the motion sensing technology of the Wii remote and nunchuck. This makes it a fun dancing video game that is active gaming for the whole body.

Another option for more active Nintendo Wii video gaming is Rock Band, especially if you play the drums. There are several other more interesting games that involve doing arm movements including Rayman Raving Rabbids. This is one of the more traditional video game like games that ends up involving a good amount of arm movement mostly involving you shaking the Wii remote and nunchuck up and down.

Uniform Shirts

Uniform shirts refer to the dress codes in various companies which are present in the corporate world. For some it is of no use to have a dress code, but those who know about the benefits of a particular dress code feel its need and importance. Corporate clothing or what we particularly call the dress code has been a marketing tool as well as it has been used to brand. These uniforms have been present since ages. When we are able to combine these we are able to achieve two goals simultaneously.

The importance of the dress code and uniform lies in the fact that having a dress code or the company slogan or a logo helps to expand our business horizons. Expanding the business horizon means that we are able to relate and extend the business easily in different directions.

When we consider the uniforms, in some situations where a team effort is asked for, it plays a vital role as it helps in gelling workforce and helps build team spirit and it helps to maintain discipline, thus building a stable team. This gelled up team with work for better results and thus in turn will produce better outputs.

There are mainly two pillars that hold any business. These are marketing and human resource. When we have these uniforms or the dress codes then it is easy to maintain both these aspects easily and effectively. Let us take an example of any restaurant. If we consider the marketing strategy of these food outlets their branding is done very effectively with the help of these uniforms .when the staff member will wear dresses or uniform that brand their product so they can easily relate themselves with the product they are branding. They are very clear in their minds to what their brand is.

It is very important to combine the brand as well as the marketing exercise as both of these are equally important in running a business effectively. As we know that in today's time advertising is not that cheap as it used to be. So if the staff members are wearing these uniforms to office it will automatically endorse the product for which they are working.

Thus having uniform shirts helps not only in the identification of the workforce but also gels them together and provides them with a driving force for better results and achievements. Well people believe or not uniforms help in raising the businesses to greater heights.

Digital Image Formats - JPEG, GIF, RAW .. What Do All These Mean?

We spend hours and hours, taking the best photographs we can, and when we're done - we apply special techniques to them with a special editing software to enhance what we've originally seen. When we are done, we try and save them in the correct format to preserve the image in the best way possible, but most people have no idea what the differences are.

The three main files a digital camera uses to store its digital images are JPEG, TIFF, and RAW formats. We need to understand what these digital image formats are and their properties - only then will we be able to get a high quality photograph.

The first format, and the one used in graphic design and photography quite often, is JPEG - a commonly used standard method of compression of images. In fact, the majority of photographers use this as their primary image mode. One of the main reasons is because it can be used right out of the camera with no editing, as it is considered a high-quality first use image. It also transfers easily across the Internet, and as email attachments. Plus it is fastest writer from the camera memory buffer to the memory card storage.

On the other side, it is not as sharp out of the camera as TIFF or RAW modes, and every time the JPEG is manipulated more than once or twice, it will eventually become unusable. But more than any of this, every time the JPEG image is modified and resaved, it will lose more data.

PEG stands for "Joint Photographic Experts Group", named after the joint committee which created it in 1986. The JPEG (file extensions are .jpg, along with .jpeg, .jfif, jpg., .JPG, and .JPE) format provides for lossy compression of images, which means that when data is compressed, and then decompressed, the data that is decompressed may be different than the original. Yet, it is sufficient to be useful in some way or another.

JPEG/JFIF is the format that is used when photographs are stored and transmitted on the Internet. It is preferably over GIF, which is limited to 256 colors that are not enough for colored photographs, or PNG, what produces larger image files.

But then, just as many photographers use TIFF as their primary usage. The TIFF is a file format used for storing images such as line art and photographs, developed by Aldus, now Adobe Systems, and Microsoft. A popular format for high color depth images, it is supported by many image-manipulation programs such as Pagemaker, QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, PhotoShop, Paint Shop Pro, etc. It is extremely high in its image quality, with excellent compatibility with the publishing companies.

Tiff can be modified and resaved, with the images being used an endless number of times without throwing away any image data. Plus the image is extremely usable, as it does not require software post-processing during or after its download from the camera. It is a flexible and adaptable , with an advantage of no picture loss, which makes it acceptable to the publishing industry.

Compared to the RAW format, it uses less storage space, and is suitable for changes from any photo-editing software. A big disadvantage is its very large file size, still choking small e-mail boxes. During photography shoots, memory cards are needed if using TIFF images, but more pictures can be taken with the same amount of memory space.

The RAW mode is a picture format where the camera has made absolutely no changes; the files are not yet processed or ready to use with an editor, etc. Not a whole lot of professionals use this mode, other than camera purists, or weird website article writers. In order for it to be manipulated, the image needs to be processed and converted to an RGB format that is either TIFF or JPEG. This means that each and every pixel that was captured by the camera is now on the image.

You can now download this image on your computer for processing. Its advantages are that a huge amount of control over the final look of the image is yours. Additionally, all original details stays in the image for any and all future processing needs.

However, when you do so you will notice that this is a very large image, probably a few MBs. This means that you will need a very large storage area or memory space if you are going to shoot images in RAW format. Your advantage is that you can sharpen, size, or crop the picture without losing any picture quality.

But your disadvantage is the file size. You cannot transmit it easily because it needs high bandwidth connections. Also, you can shoot very few photographs if you select the RAW mode. After that, you have to change the memory card or make space by erasing a few photographs. Also, this mode is generally not accepted by the publishing industry because it produces a 12-bit image. The photographer needs to modify it using photo-editing software before submitting it for publication.

Overall, if a photographer wants to keep all the original image data that was recorded, the image must be stored in RAW format. It is the closest thing that we will be able to see in a film negative or a transparency that the digital camera can make.

How to Build a Solar Heater - Make Homemade DIY Solar Heaters

Solar heating systems are quickly invading the market. People continuously appreciate the benefits of having solar powered heaters: from hot water heaters, pool heaters, and air heaters. Moreover, a lot of people have taken to explore the ways of learning how to build a solar heater. Their familiarity with how solar panels work have given them impetus to take a stab at crafting a solar powered heater that will serve their purposes.

Solar heating systems thrive on the concept of trapping light energy from the sun inside solar cells where silicon semiconductors transmit the said energy and convert it into electricity, or whatever form of energy necessary to generate water or air heating. Hot water, pool, and air heating systems all require solar panels. These panels, when done by yourself right at the comforts of your own home, vary according to the purpose you have. Hot water heating systems can make use of aluminum awning-type glass window panels to serve as a solar panel that will absorb the light energy it needs to heat water. For pool heating systems, reflectors are needed to absorb the light. Pool water runs on the tubes which are placed on top of reflectors. The water is heated, circulated, and pumped back to the pool. Another important detail of how to build a solar heater is the concept of cost-efficiency.

You are basically trying to create your own solar heater to save money. For instance, when making a solar air heater, you can make use of cheap materials. You can have scrap plywood to serve as your box for holding used aluminum cans that become passageways for the much-coveted hot air. Over all, people have grown attracted to these do-it-yourself projects because materials may be abundant and easily found. Installation and assembly does not take very long, and even when it does, the period within which these solar heaters are made does not really matter any more. People make family or group projects out of these endeavors, and the resulting product is always a labor of love - as is the case in any do-it-yourself undertaking.

To learn how to build a solar heater, you must first be familiar with how solar panels and solar cells work. Once you are aware of the concept that lies in solar powered appliances, it will be easier for you to choose the materials which you will deem to be appropriate for your respective solar heaters. The makeshift solar panels can vary from one project to another and from one person to another, but that does not mean that one man's success is going to be another man's failure. A lot of people have developed various distinctive ways of building solar heaters, and although their materials and methods are different, their results are the same: a successful and fully-functional solar heater.

Do you know that lots of people at home are now building their own solar power system at home? A lot of people are also building wind power generators to use wind power to generate electricity.

Bring That Camera Outside, and See What Can Happen!

Do you enjoy taking pictures? Do you long for more time to get outside and enjoy nature? Are you a priority in your life? Can you imagine including one hour each week to do something as self-indulgent as making an appointment with nature? It involves stepping out of your day to day routine, and experiencing living in the moment. Pick a season, bring a camera, and focus on one aspect of nature that you find interesting, exciting or peaks your imagination. I take myself to the beach on a regular basis. Why? No matter what the season, the ocean offers a timeless display of simplicity, and movement at it's best. The rhythm of the waves lapping at the shore; the tides moving in and out make a beautiful spectacle of themselves in every season.

In the winter, the ocean is moved and kicked up by the wind, and currents. There are white caps on the tips of the waves, and the sand is pristine and hardly touched by human encounters. Fragments of shells, and driftwood arrange themselves in no particular display around the shoreline.

Get out of your car, get out of your routine, and by all means get out of the every day. Push yourself into the beauty, and single momentary experience of nature.

It could be a walk in the woods, or a stroll on the beach. It could be a walk around your city block. There you might find a bit of a tree in a golden striation of change; peaking through the concrete trying to be noticed, waiting for you to come and snap that once in a lifetime photo. Every moment of every day invites us to switch up our routine, and walk into a different possibility. There is a handiwork of color and creation just outside our doorsteps. It could be only a short drive away. Even man-made creations co-mingled with nature offers something striking for us to see. The silhouette of a bridge casting it's structure by linking one shore to another. By zooming in on the specific image, whether it be the sun setting, or the contrast of the sky. It can be a truly amazing sight. It could be a butterfly alighting on a flower, or a woodpecker gracing your bird feeder in your own backyard. You might be the one person lucky enough to capture that image, at just the right hour, of a just the right day.

Element Skate Boards - A Brief History

The Element Skate Boards company was created in 1992 by Johnny Schilereff. Coming from a troubled childhood, he aspired to develop a company that intertwined his passion for skateboarding with a positive influence on today's youth. The company was started when Johnny was given the opportunity to take over the failing company, Underworld Element, for which he was currently employed. He viewed the opportunity, as his chance to turn his dream into a reality. With consistent, positive, hard work, he turned the failing company around, and made it what it is today.

Element skate boards are now carried by dealers all around the globe. The products can be found at nearly any skateshop in the United States. There is even Element stores with locations in Honolulu, New York, and even Sydney, Australia. The company has developed many products beyond just skateboards. They have a clothing line for both males and females, a shoe line, and an array of various specialty products. Many products are available from various dealers online, as well. The company has even created a website exclusively for girls, with the entire site being dedicated more to the fashion of the skateboarding life style rather than the skating itself.

Since becoming one of the top companies in the skateboarding industry, Element has created the Element Advocates. The group is made up of people that have the passion for skateboarding, and the positive attitude to mentor the younger generations of the world. Along with being a positive influence to kids across the United States, the group aims to spread the knowledge and meaning of the skateboarding community to the rest of the world, in hopes of developing a greater understanding of the skateboarding life style.

In coalition with the YMCA, Element Skate Boards has created a skate camp for the youths of America. The camps run through the summer months, lasting an average of five days per session. The camp gives children the opportunity to meet some of skateboarding's biggest names. The children are also taught tips and tricks to improve their skate boarding skills. They are given use of top of the line facilities, and are able to make new friends who share the same interests and hobbies. The only requirements for the camp are that the kids are between the ages of eight and seventeen, and must have all their own personal supplies and skating equipment, including safety gear.

Element skate boards also sponsors a wide variety of events throughout the year. With concerts, skate tours, team signings, barbeque contests, and skate demos being presented over the next few months alone, it is obvious that this company is doing its best to give communities a safe, healthy, and entertaining form of socialization....which is what the skateboarding world is all about.

Finding Energy Star Compact Refrigerators

Where is the best place to find Energy Star compact refrigerators? Well let's start with a review of the various purchasing options.

Many people, when they think of appliances, head straight to Sears. But many of my friends and family have felt that their customer service has been lacking in recent years. It is still worth checking out their prices though, in case there is a steep discount over your other options. Other places that are popular for appliances are Home Depot and Lowe's. This is a relatively new place to purchase home appliances. Both of their customer service and delivery is top notch.

You can also comparison shop at Best Buy and Brandsmart. Try to take your time and compare Energy Star compact refrigerators on paper, ignoring salesmen. It is a good idea to pick up a copy of Consumer Reports, or check their website, to see which brands of refrigerators they recommend as having the least service problems, and which they recommend based on price. It's a good idea to find a medium between those two options, and of course, energy start compliance.

Small appliances can definitely be energy hogs, so don't be fooled. Just because you are buying a small refrigerator doesn't mean you will have a small electric bill. In fact, and I'm not sure why, the inverse seems to be true sometimes. The smallest refrigerator I ever owned seemed to always use the most electricity! I am a refrigerator person and I have at times owned two or more at a time, so I have had room for comparison.

I have also researched how to pick the most energy efficient appliances. You know that Energy Star? That means the refrigerator is 20% more efficient than minimum standards, so you want that star!

But there's an additional way to compare energy efficiency as well: the yellow sticker (the actual estimated cost to run the appliance) and the rating. "The rating?", you may ask. Yes. There is a rating for each refrigerator in America, assigning a letter grade from A to G. "A" appliances are very efficient, while "G" appliances are not so efficient.

With these tools you are now equipped to find a good refrigerator for your family, that is inexpensive and environmentally conscious. It is also wallet conscious, as an energy efficient appliance will save you money month after month for the entire life of the refrigerator.

If you are someone who is obsessed with visual quality and looking for a TV that would look good in both bright and dark environments, Plasma TVs are safe bets. Here is a review of one of the best Plasma TVs in the market, the Panasonic Viera TH-42PX80U 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV.
