Fun Incentives to Get Your Family to Go Green at Home

Recycle. This very word conjures up images of lugging unwanted materials all the way to the recycling center, and perhaps it is because of this that many people are reluctant to pursue their recycling efforts even if they did take up the initiative to recycle, even just for a one-off occasion. We all know the benefits that come with recycling but most of us are too lazy to do anything about it. To help things going, here are several fun recycling methods that you and your family can take part in.

Let's start with the man of the house. More often than not, he is content to watch TV and have a cold beer upon returning home. Get him to sort out the recyclable materials and you'll hear a thousand and one excuses not to. Why not give him incentives in the form of more beers as long as he recycles the beer cans? You can start by offering to buy him a beer say, for every five or ten beer cans he helps collect and put in the bin. A man never says no to a cold can of beer so before long and with any luck, you'll see him diligently collecting and placing the cans in the right bins to be recycled! To make his efforts easier to track, create a point system and give him a little card which will be stamped accordingly each time he makes a beer can "deposit". This method is fun, gets the job done and gives the hardworking man a beer too! A win-win situation, I say! You can also get him to encourage his friends to do the same and before long you'll see all the men in the neighborhood lugging their own cans to be recycled!

The next step towards going green is to give your kids recyclable items to play with by creating toys out of recyclable materials. This will encourage them to be innovative during playtime and be creative as well as help strengthen your bond. You can also consider telling your kids to save crayons that are too short or unwanted and give them to the National Crayon Recycle Program. Take note that crayons are highly recyclable and through this program, donated crayons are reshaped into interesting forms while still retaining their functionality. As a reminder do make sure the wrappers stay on the crayons as it makes it easier to sort through. Start from home and if this gets big, you can even take your crayon recycling efforts to a whole new level - at school! Just prepare drop-off boxes to collect crayons from children.

Next, encourage your teenagers to be creative by decorating their rooms with recycled items. Be creative and suggest they reuse their unwanted CDs by sticking them upon walls or on their desks for a futuristic finish.

In the kitchen, prepare recycling bins and encourage your family to recycle. There are so many things you can do with unwanted materials found in the kitchen. For example, think about all the glass bottles you throw away each week. You can collect them and paint motives on them, making your very own limited edition vases! Sell them in flea markets or on eBay, it'll definitely net in more cash for your household and you would also be doing your part as a good citizen of the Earth! Going green at home can be fun and save you money on expensive and toxic household goods and products.

Be Fashionably Petite Just Like Natalie Portman

At 5 feet and 3 inches, Natalie Portman can be considered as a petite woman, and a very beautiful and stylish one at that. She is seen as one of the more talented young actresses of today, not to mention one of the smartest, as she also holds a Harvard degree.

As a petite woman, she is often able to wear outfits that make her appear taller and even more beautiful. In style and fashion, Natalie Portman usually can do whatever she wants and get away with it. If you are petite as well, you might want to copy some of Natalie Portman?s looks and styles.

Petite is often than not misunderstood as being small. The truth of the matter is that petite does not refer to one?s weight, but is actually referring to one?s height. Petite fashions will come in a wide array of sizes from O to plus sized. Women who have a height below 5?4? are said to be petite whether they are slim, average or has a plus sized frame.

Natalie Portman is just of the petite celebrities of Hollywood. She has even modeled a lot of the petite fashions that many designers have created. Today, more and more designers design clothes suited for petite women. When you are petite, you should avoid colors, prints and cuts that are specifically created for taller women. Petite fashion includes shorter arm sleeves and shorter leg pants, higher waists, and narrower shoulders. Print patterns for petite people are usually smaller and they avoid chunky appearances.

When you are buying clothes for a petite woman, you are advised to keep up with simple styles. Do not wear a shirt longer than your mid thigh, and you should avoid colors that have drastic contrasts in trousers and blouses. Do not buy shoes that are flat or shoes that have square toes. What you should keep in mind is a pair of shoes that are comfortable and stylish with gently pointed toes. What you should also avoid in a petite woman?s wardrobe are ribbons and buckles.

What's the Difference Between 2D and 3D Anyway?

Isn't it obvious? Well, apparently not quite, when you consider how many people are still struggling with this topic!

The first concept you must grasp is that 3D means 3 dimensional and 2D means 2 dimensional. Now before you think I'm stating the obvious, let me go on to say that the 3D and 2D in animation refer to the dimension in which the animation was created. Ahhhh. The plot thickens eh?

For 2D animation, everything happens on a 2 dimensional platform. Pictures are flat, without depth and offer only one pespective. Objects and characters are usually drawn without the subtle soft shadows we see in real life and colours have few varying shades. In 3D animation, everything happens on a 3 dimensional platform. Pictures have depth and offer multiple pespectives just like in real life and have soft subtle shadows casted on the objects and characters within.

In 2D, characters look cartoonish and unrealisitc. In 3D, characters can look cartoonish but realistic at the same time.

Another way to think of this is to think in terms of a painting and a sculpture. 2D is a painting, and 3D is a sculpture. 3D introduces "depth perspective," so we not only see a rectangle (2D) but a CUBE (3D). You may also want to think of it like being the difference between a photograph of a glass of water (2D) and being able to reach out and actually pick up the glass of water (3D).

Typically, 2D involves "drawing," or movement on, say, a flat surface (sketch pad, etc.) or in the vertical and horizontal planes. 3D involves "modeling," i.e., creating objects in 3-dimensions using a computer software, residing in an expansive virtual environment, complete with lights, reflections, other objects, shadows, etc.

You could start training yourself by comparing a cartoon like Bugs Bunny, Aladdin, Lion King (2D) to "Toy Story 1,2 & 3, "Finding Nemo" and "Incredibles" (3D). If you have not watched any of these great cartoons, you should grab one right away or be branded a neantherdal forever!

This article was written by Aldric Chang - a creative businessman who is active in music composing and production, internet marketing, casual games production, animation production, cartoon production and character licensing. His 3d animation studio - Mediafreaks - is focused on producing high-end animation work for documentary producers, advertising houses and cartoon animated series - with projects ranging from the animation of dinosaurs to the visualization of natural disasters and something as chic as 3d jewelry animations or as intricate as 3d medical animation.

Battle Chess - A Computer Chess Game, Not For The Faint Of Heart

Battle Chess is a computer game version of chess released for the 3DO, PC, Apple IIGS, Commodore 64, Amiga, Amiga CDTV, CD32, AtariST, Apple Macintosh, Acorn Archimedes, and the Nintendo Entertainment System. Developed by Interlay Productions, Inc., the game was designed to draw people who did not normally play chess.

Battle Chess elevates the game beyond a mere cerebral one and into a full-fledged war with riveting graphics and animations that bring each piece to life. The objective is the same as the board game version--to capture enemy pieces and finally the King.

The animations are extremely entertaining and clever. The Bishop fights opponents by using magic and twirling a staff with retractable blades that resemble a martial arts expert. The Pawn performs wizardry and hits the ground with the butt of his lance that creates a large hole large enough to swallow the Bishop. The Queen uses magic to capture opponents, and also blasts them to pieces using bolts of energy. In one animated sequence, the Queen decimates the opposing Knight and blasts the Bishop with such force that only his skeleton remains!

The others have moments of glory too, and the Queen does not always dominate. For example, when the Queen throws her energy bolt at the Knight, the Knight can in turn use his shield to redirect the bolt back at the Queen and turn her into a small dragon. The Rook transforms himself into a large rock monster and attacks the Queen, swallowing her whole. The Rook also reduces the Knight to a helmet with feet by pounding the Knight's head.

The King also has a bag of dirty tricks. He takes a gun against the Bishop, strikes down the Rook with magic powder, and hurls a bomb at the Knight. When capturing the Queen, he embraces her passionately before hitting her with his scepter when she tries to stab him in the back with a knife.

When defeated, the King ends up resembling a deflated two-dimensional cartoon character. The Knight cuts open the King's robe, and pounds him into a two dimensional version of himself that looks as though he has been run over by a steam roller. The Pawn, with a flip of his lance, then takes the King's crown for himself as the King pounds the ground in frustration.

Battle chess attracted a large number of imitators but none matched the humorous animation of artists Todd Camasta and Bruce Schlickbernd. The game can be played with 3D animation, and there is also a version in 2D with no animation. There are a total of 30,000 different moves in the game's library. It can be played across 10 levels of increasing difficulty. The game can be played with a human opponent or against the computer. Another entertaining option is watching the computer play against itself.
